Approved Unanimously by NASE Executive Committee 3/22/21
The NASE Executive Committee wants to take a moment to speak to those in the Asian, Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities. We are alarmed by the increasing reports of violence against members of these communities across the country. We condemn this bigotry and all forms of violence against these groups.
We are aware that our friends, loved ones and families in the Asian, Asian-American and Pacific Islanders community confront the reality of racism – whether it’s overt or subtle – every day. We want to be clear that we are vigilant and stand in solidarity with our students, families, and members who share these identities. We will continue to stand against the increasing violence against members of these communities and will use our collective voices to protect and honor these students and staff.
With that being said, we will continue to face our own biases and call people in when we hear racial, homophobic, xenophobic, and anti-Semitic language. We will continue working towards the eradication of hate symbols and speech in our schools. Lastly, we will continue to educate ourselves and our students on these important issues.
